Overview
This Privacy Policy describes how smry ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website, application, and services (the "Service").
We are committed to minimizing the data we collect. Many features of the Service work without an account, and we store reading data client-side whenever possible.
Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Account information. If you create an account, we collect information used to authenticate and manage your account, such as your email address and authentication credentials.
- URLs you submit. When you use the Service to read an article, we receive the URL you provide. We use this to retrieve content and may cache the retrieved content temporarily to improve performance.
- Sponsor placements. For non-premium users, we and our service providers may use limited account, device, usage, and reading-context information to select, deliver, measure, and protect sponsor placements.
- Chat messages. If you use our AI chat feature, your messages are processed by third-party AI providers to generate responses. For premium users, chat threads may be stored server-side to enable cross-device sync.
- Kindle delivery and operational notice. If you use Send to Kindle, we derive a pseudonymous sending address from your account ID and send the selected article's title, text, attribution, and source URL to your Kindle address through Resend and Amazon's Personal Documents Service. After an accepted paid delivery, we send an internal usage notice to the service owner containing your account ID, available Clerk name, username and account email, article title and source URL, and provider delivery ID. The notice does not include your Kindle address or article text.
- Imported files. When you import a document, we process it to provide the requested features. Imported content may be handled by service providers that support document parsing and optional AI features.
- Reading data and public contributions. Signed-in users may send library items, RSS or Atom feed URLs and read state, highlights, notes, and related article details to our servers for storage and cross-device access. When you follow a feed, we periodically retrieve its public metadata and entries so new items can appear in your reading queue. Annotations, snippets, article snapshots, or permanent archives you choose to publish or share are stored server-side and made available through public links or public article views. These records may include the content you submit, source URL and title, account identifier, context or position data, timestamps, and view counts.
- Article recommendations. When recommendations are available for a public article, we may use limited information from that article, such as its publisher, title, or an excerpt, with search and AI providers to find and rank relevant public content.
Information collected automatically
- Usage analytics. We collect usage data, including pages visited, features used, and performance metrics, to understand and improve the Service.
- Device and browser information. We collect standard technical information such as browser type, operating system, device type, and screen resolution for analytics and compatibility purposes.
- IP address. Your IP address is used for service delivery, security, fraud prevention, analytics, and sponsor measurement.
Information stored on your device
The following data may be stored locally in your browser. Some locally stored information may be processed when you use personalization, sponsor, or cross-device sync features:
- Article history (localStorage)
- Chat threads (IndexedDB)
- Imported files and parsed document content (IndexedDB)
- Library items, highlights, notes, and reading progress (IndexedDB or localStorage, with server sync for supported signed-in features)

You can clear this data at any time through your browser settings.
