Overview
This Privacy Policy describes how SMRY ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website, application, and services (the "Service").
We are committed to minimizing the data we collect. Many features of the Service work without an account, and we store reading data client-side whenever possible.
Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Account information. If you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication credentials through our authentication provider (Clerk). We do not store your password directly.
- URLs you submit. When you use the Service to read an article, we receive the URL you provide. We use this to retrieve content and may cache the retrieved content temporarily to improve performance.
- Chat messages. If you use our AI chat feature, your messages are processed by third-party AI providers to generate responses. For premium users, chat threads may be stored server-side to enable cross-device sync.
Information collected automatically
- Usage analytics. We use PostHog to collect anonymous usage data, including pages visited, features used, and performance metrics. PostHog may also record user sessions (clicks, scrolls, page interactions) to help us improve the Service. You can opt out of session recording via your browser's Do Not Track setting.
- Device and browser information. We collect standard technical information such as browser type, operating system, device type, and screen resolution for analytics and compatibility purposes.
- IP address. Your IP address is collected for rate limiting and abuse prevention. We do not use IP addresses for tracking or profiling.
Information stored on your device
The following data is stored locally in your browser and never sent to our servers unless you are a premium user with sync enabled:
- Article history (localStorage)
- Chat threads (IndexedDB)
- Reading preferences (localStorage)
You can clear this data at any time through your browser settings.
