Getty Images SAN FRANCISCO—Anthropic’s revenue climbed 45% to $16.8 billion in the third quarter, according to people familiar with the matter, as the Claude maker prepares for a massive public debut as soon as next month. The artificial-intelligence company hosted public-market investors at its San Francisco office Wednesday for a marathon day of presentations ahead of its planned IPO. Seats at the event were limited, with money managers joining in person and remotely to hear Anthropic’s pitch. A line of black Suburbans were parked outside the office Wednesday and investors filed out around 4 p.m. Pacific Time holding green baseball caps bearing the word “thinking” and the Claude logo sewn discreetly on the side of the caps. Some milled around outside the office to debrief before getting into cars. The company is racing to build ever-more sophisticated AI models while attracting new business and consumer users of its tools. Rival OpenAI is also planning a public-market debut, but has said it plans to wait until 2027 to do so. Both firms face growing competition from domestic rivals and low-cost models made by Chinese companies. Anthropic had posted revenue of $11.6 billion in the second quarter, and just under $5 billion in the first quarter. Investors expect Anthropic to reach more than $110 billion in annualized revenue by year-end. The third-quarter revenue was earlier reported by Financial Times. The company’s IPO could raise as much as $100 billion with a valuation of around $2 trillion, The Wall Street Journal previously reported. It is expected to share more details about its business with investors when it makes its IPO paperwork public in the coming weeks.
