# Eamonn Holmes’ TV future revealed after stroke horror **By:** Amanda Devlin **Published:** 2026-06-24T15:02:59+01:00 **Source:** [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/tv/39521839/eamonn-holmes-tv-future-revealed-stroke) --- IT has been an agonising few months since Eamonn Holmes was rushed to hospital following a stroke – throwing his 45-year television career into a tailspin. The veteran presenter, 66, has not yet returned home since falling ill in April and now, while he focuses on his recovery with round-the-clock care, we can reveal his future on TV as his loyal girlfriend Katie Alexander, 44, remains by his bedside. On Tuesday, some of the biggest stars from the entertainment world gathered at the glamorous TRIC Awards at Grosvenor House on London’s Park Lane – but there was noticeable absence. For the past three years, Eamonn has picked up an award for Best News Programme at the glitzy event in a public vote for GB News’ popular Breakfast Show. However, his colleagues stepped up to accept the gong when it won again last night as Eamonn remained under supervision at a specialist hospital. Despite rumours of Eamonn being offered a settlement that would help his care costs going forward, we can reveal he WILL be returning to GB News. An insider told The Sun: “Eamonn is one of the channel’s most popular presenters. “I can categorically say he WILL be coming back, and any suggestion otherwise is wrong. “For now, Eamonn is being given the time to heal. “He’s been through a lot and needs this time to recover. “Once he’s back on his feet, he’ll be welcomed back with open arms.” Eamonn – who presents alongside Ellie Costello – hasn’t appeared on the breakfast show since March 12. He was scheduled to return in April before the stroke prolonged his absence. Picking up the award on his behalf last night was his former ITV co-host Anne Diamond, who gave a special nod to Eamonn. “There are a couple of people who would love to be here but can’t for various reasons,” she told the star-studded crowd. “Stephen Dixon, who is my weekend co-presenter and Eamonn Holmes, who you know is not very well at the moment. “But he’s doing well. He’s recovering, and we’re all hoping he’ll be back very soon.” Eamonn has been replaced by Alex Armstrong on the morning show, who was praised by his co-star Ellie during her acceptance speech. She said: “Thank you to Alex, who has stood in for Eamonn for the past few months and is just so lovely and so talented.” It is not yet known whether Eamonn will be back to host the breakfast show or return in a new slot. Earlier this month, Eamonn shared a snap of himself with his girlfriend Katie from his hospital bed. Giving hope of a return to the airwaves, Eamonn told The Sun: “I can’t wait to be out of this gown and back in a suit and tie. “Watch this space. “I’ll be back after this break.” Dad-of-four Eamonn’s health woes started in 2021, after he suffered three slipped discs and a dislocated pelvis. He began using a wheelchair the following year after undergoing surgery and was supported by carers every day before his stroke. Speaking about his issues in March, he said: “Well, obviously I’ve been better. “I’ve got this back and paralysis problem which has been with me now for three years. “It’s terrible to come to terms with. “The thing is, nobody seems to know what the problem is, so I just stick with it, and hopefully they’ll find a cure one day.” Eamonn’s partner Katie has been a pillar of strength for the news anchor, who has suffered a series of health setbacks in recent years. He split from his wife Ruth Langsford two years ago after 27 years together – and married for 14. They are headed to court with a trial set for November to agree a financial settlement over their combined wealth. Ruth is understood to want to keep their marital home in Weybridge Surrey, which they bought 12 years ago for £3.6million.
