Celtic have yet to reach an agreement with key members of Martin O’Neill’s backroom team.

The interim boss agreed to become the permanent manager on a one-year deal, with the option for another year, following talks with controlling shareholder Dermot Desmond last week.

An announcement confirming the 74-year-old’s return was made on Thursday afternoon. As yet, however, the Parkhead club have yet to reach a contractual agreement with coaches Shaun Maloney or Mark Fotheringham. And the two sides are understood to remain a distance apart.

The coaching team led the club to a league and Scottish Cup double last season.

And O’Neill’s anticipated return follows a ferocious backlash from supporters to the prospect of Irish icon Robbie Keane landing the job after talks last week.

The SPFL Champions face a huge summer rebuild, with a number of players heading out the door and a list of targets in place for O’Neill to sign off when outstanding contract issues are tied up.
