# Kasper Hogh given Celtic backing despite goal struggles

Kasper Hogh has been told he can still have a major impact at Celtic even if the goals don’t start flowing.

The £11 million record signing has struggled to reproduce the form he showed at Bodo/Glimt, where he established himself as a major attacking threat.

But former Celtic star Vidar Riseth believes Hogh’s difficulties can partly be explained by the different role he is being asked to perform.

Riseth watched the Danish frontman flourish at Bodo/Glimt and feels his physical presence can be used to create opportunities for the players around him. He said: “Hogh is a big, strong target man. When he played for Bodo, they played a different style that worked for him. \[[SunSport](https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/17024381/celtic-board-martin-oneill-kasper-hogh-role/?ref=ed_direct)\]

“I think he’d like to get more crosses, as he did at Bodo, because he’s such a big lad with a good finish. Now they’re playing more up to him and asking to get the ball back again, so it’s different for him, but the most important thing for Martin is Celtic winning games.

“If Martin wants to use Hogh as a way to give more space to other players, then that’s the best way to use him.”

Hogh showed his quality on the European stage during his time at Bodo/Glimt, scoring in [Champions League](https://www.celticway.co.uk/news/24590677.celtic-champions-league-teams-dates-need-know/?ref=au) victories over Manchester City and Atletico Madrid.

And Riseth insists the striker does not necessarily have to be the man finding the net to make a difference for Celtic. The Norwegian believes Hogh can occupy defenders and provide the space for his team-mates to make the telling contribution instead.

Riseth added: “Sometimes at Bodo he didn’t score the goals, but there’s always one or two defenders on him all the time. That gives space to the midfield and to other players to come through and score the goals.

“If he works hard and does a good job, it doesn’t matter who scores.”
